The land was purchased to house the Preston School of Industry, established by the State Legislature as a progressive action toward rehabilitating, rather than simply imprisoning, juvenile offenders. On June 13, 1894, the first wards were accepted at the Preston School of Industry, which closed in 1960. Description: SUPPORT OUR SOLDIERS - S.O.S. workshops are scheduled on the following dates: March 10, June 23, September 8 and December 8th from 9AM to 3PM. They are held at The American Legion Building, 12134 Airport Dr., Sutter Creek. We will be making Cool Ties and Helmet Coolers for the Soldiers at war. The American Sewing Guild supplies the materials to make these items. If you have general sewing supplies and a sewing machine please bring them. If not there are jobs available to help in the assemble of these process. We will be collecting items needed by the Soldiers at the workshops. A list of these items is available by calling Jan Morin. Cotton fabric donations are always welcome. You can bring a lunch or something to share. This is a fun workshop and the Soldiers love these items. Questions call Jan Morin - 209-296-1309 |
